florida and the festival of colors

Yesterday, I went to the Holi Festival of Colors with two of my friends, Annika, and Tiana. It was at the Krishna Temple, in Spanish Fork. It is a festival where they celebrate the Holiday Holi. In India, Holi announces the arrival of spring and the passing of winter. Young and old are covered with colors (red, green, yellow, blue, pink, black and silver). People are seen singing, dancing and throwing colors on each other. There were musical interludes, Indian classical dance, cuisine, and the lighting of a bonfire.
The throwing of the colors on eachother symbolizes everyone being alike in one way even though we are all different! It was so much fun, and I can't wait until next year!

There was a Llama farm there!





They have a "throwing" at 1:00pm and 4:00pm. The "throwing" is when they do a count down from 10....10.9.8.7.6.5.4.3.2.1!! And then every single person throws all of their powder paint in the air and at eachother and it looks like this! We were right in the middle of it, so we were inhaling it! It isn't toxic but it still was kinda scary! But sooooo fun.


Also, Jenny just got back from Florida today! She had such a fun time, and here are some pictures from her trip!

screech owl

I was swinging Bailey, our next door neighbor, out in the backyard in our hammock swings and what seemed like a huge bird swooped down right past Bailey's head and went into our pine tree.
I walked over very quitely to the tree and saw that it was a little screech owl!

It looked pretty small compared to what I thought I saw swoop past Bailey's head. But it was the cutest owl ever! We always have a few in our backyard, but I have never been able to get as close to any of them as I got to this one. So i got lucky!

Hey.....it's what he wanted........





Okay just kidding that's not what he wanted, but we were shaving his whole head so we might as well do something crazy with it right?? We ended up shaving the whole thing and it looks much better than that...haha


Yup! She's getting much bigger.


But still as cute as ever!!

Also,
Jake had a rugby tournament down in St.george last Saturday. Dad, Jake, and two of Jake's friends woke up at 6 am on Saturday, drove down to St. george, played their game at noon, and drove back when they were done! Jake got in and played great for a first time rugby player. He is getting the hang of the extremely confusing game, and we are all excited to watch him in the future!

Jenny left for Florida today with a couple of friends for Spring Break! She will be gone until next Sunday, so we'll put some pictures up then! Have fun Jen!

What's the only thing to do on a Sunday afternoon when there is snow outside?
bake delicious chocolate chip oatmeal cookies....
and make homeade chicken soup!
